Gotta love that slow shutter speed!

Up, up and away!

Can you tell it was a windy day at Greenlake?

I’ve been really loving the opportunities I’ve had lately to photograph families (and people) with their pets! I really hope more of my clients decide to include pets in their photos! (Hint, hint!) Shaq certainly enjoyed himself…

This was my first time photographing a family at Greenlake, and I’m SO glad that Leslie suggested the location. There were lots of little picturesque spots to take photos; I’ll definitely be keeping this one in mine for future photos. I’d stayed away from it in the past because it’s often so crowded, but once you move off the trail it’s very open. :)

This girl should go into modeling. Seriously! Talk about adorable.

Hurd-08.jpg

Okay, let’s be honest…this whole FAMILY should go into modeling!

Favorite!

No, wait, maybe this is my favorite…

Hurd-13.jpg

No, this one! This one is definitely my favorite…

Hurd-14.jpg

Alright, fine, they’re all my favorites. How on earth am I supposed to pick ONE?

Seattle, WA: Leslie is one of my girlfriend’s co-workers, and immediately thought of me when it was time for their family photos this year. She really wanted some photos with the family dog (Shaq), because he’s getting up there in dog years…though from his energy, you would never guess it! Shaq kept us on our toes all afternoon. Leslie suggested Greenlake Park, and I’ll admit—I was a little nervous about the location at first because Greenlake is usually SO busy. It was a pretty chilly day when we were there, though, so we lucked out! Leslie, Lamar and Linai were an incredibly fun family to photograph, coming up with ideas like climbing trees for their pictures! How much fun is that? The whole family is very active; Linai (the daughter) just finished her first 5K walk last weekend. Talk about impressive! Shaq wasn’t the only one keeping ME on my toes. :)

Leslie, Lamar and Linai—thanks for such a fun afternoon!

Kat & Rowan: Family Portraits
November 5, 2007

For Kat & Rowan’s relaxed family portraits, we started the day off at their house in Federal Way with the two of them playing Cadoo:

Their dog, Tikka, wanted in on the action!

After Cadoo, we headed out to the back balcony for some more photos…

…and then we went into the basement where they had a POOL TABLE! How awesome is that? I was jealous. Of course, I don’t know how to play pool, so they showed me how it’s done…

I’ve been experimenting with textures lately…what do you think?

After pool, we went to a local park to take advantage of the sun…

Okay, I’ll be honest…I have no idea what Rowan is doing here! But I thought it made a nice series anyway. :)

I see you!

Federal Way, WA: Kat contacted me for some family photos of she and her son, Rowan. Our mutual friend, Brenda, (family photos coming soooooooon!) recommended me to her, and I’m SO GLAD she did! Kat is an amazing person with an awesome sense of humor, and Rowan definitely takes after her. Rowan kept me on my toes all day, showing me around their house and coming up with ideas for photos. I could use someone like him as an assistant! Seriously!

Tomi & Kevin: 9/8/07
October 2, 2007

The girls started out their day getting their hair done at this rockin’ little hair salon called “The Hair Station” that is attached t—are you ready for this?—a GAS STATION. So cool.

TomiKevin-01.jpg

Hey, Tomi, you’re so “stuck up!” Just kidding. :P

TomiKevin-02.jpg

Tomi’s sister stopped to look at some celeb mags (a total secret obsession of mine), and stopped on this page with (heartthrob!) Seth Green:

TomiKevin-03.jpg

Tomi decided to have her make-up done at the MAC counter in the Alderwood Mall. She wasn’t the only one with that idea—I couldn’t believe how many brides were there doing the same! Even more surprising though was that I was the only photographer there. Oh well, at least I didn’t have to compete with other people’s flashes going off!

TomiKevin-04.jpg

Tomi’s make-up artist was so nice and funny. It was a pleasure to watch her work. :)

Just look at all that love in her eyes…

TomiKevin-11.jpg

Okay, so Nikki gave the best toast EVER. It was so funny and interesting. This woman could have a career in public speaking! Seriously, she knew how to keep an audience’s attention. I think the best part was when she was reading from the paper and she said, “Tomi is so nice, sweet, caring, loving, talented, pretty…hey, Tomi, what’s it say here? I can’t read your writing.”

TomiKevin-12.jpg

Tomi and Kevin adopted three little kittens this summer, and they were all about two months old at the wedding. So cute…and just the right size to go home with guests as a wedding favor!

TomiKevin-13.jpg

TomiKevin-14.jpg

Talk about chemistry, look at them sizzle!

TomiKevin-15.jpg

Snohomish, WA: Tomi and Kevin…where do I begin? I’ve known Tomi for almost a year now because she and Holly (my partner) used to work together. When it came time for Tomi to start planning her wedding, she called and asked me to be her photographer! Heck yeah!

The couple recently purchased a house on five acres up in Snohomish, and they decided to turn their housewarming into a wedding by having the ceremony and reception LITERALLY in their own backyard. How cool is that? It made the whole event feel very homey and comfortable. I think the best part of the ceremony was that Tomi and Kevin ad-libbed through some of the serious parts and kept cracking eachother up. You can see some of that in the slideshow, below.

Thanks, Tomi and Kevin, for including me in your day! :)

Some of you may remember this image from Katy and Jason’s engagement photos…we did a replay at the wedding! I’m totally obsessed with classic cars, so I was thrilled that Katy and Jason were using Katy’s 1962 Buick Skylark convertible as their getaway car! I have to say, though, I think I like the one from the engagement session better!

July 7, 2007—Well, I’m finally back to blogging! Whew, I’ve had so many things on my plate this summer (not the least of which has been getting this new website up and running!) that I haven’t been able to keep up with blogging. But that’s all about to change, starting with this wedding from early July!

Katy and Jason got married on what was probably the most popular wedding day this decade! I was thrilled to photograph their wedding for so many reasons. I’ve known Katy casually for many years, through our mutual friend Kathleen, and when she found out that I had finally made the move to full-time freelance photography, we started talking about wedding photographs! I knew Katy would be fun to photograph…I love having brides/grooms with tattoos and funky style, and Katy’s got style in SPADES. She’s one of the owners of Cafe Venus, one of Seattle’s best hang-outs. Adding to the funky style is Katy’s car: a 1962 Buick Skylark convertible! Anyone who knows me knows that I LOOOOOOOOVE old cars! I was thrilled when I found out that Katy and Jason were going to make their “getaway” in her awesome car.

Thank you, Katy and Jason, for including me in your “lucky” day!
