News from Molly
September 25, 2007

What a summer it was at Molly Bennett Creative! Somewhere between re-vamping my website, branding and business tools I managed to photograph some weddings, schedule portrait sessions and launch a new fine-art project. I have been a busy new-business-owner!

One of the introductions I've been the most excited about is the beginning of this newsletter. I will be using it to let you know what's going on in my corner of the world. In addition to sharing some of my recent project highlights, I'll be offering exclusive discounts and promotions to those of you who are subscribed to this newsletter. Of course, if you don't want to receive it, just hit "unsubscribe" at the bottom and you'll be taken off the list.

By the way, did you know that I recently launched my new photography website and blog? You can even subscribe to the RSS feed for the blog to keep up-to-date with my current projects. Leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!

Introducing Pictage

Pictage.gifAs of last week, Molly Bennett Creative became a Pictage company. All photography proofing and ordering galleries will be hosted at www.Pictage.com. Pictage offers many great services that it was previously difficult or impossible for me to offer on my own. Through Pictage, you'll be able to create holiday cards, albums, professional prints and other special gifts. Your gallery will remain online for 3 months after the images are released to you, so make sure you place your order soon when your gallery goes online!

I will be migrating older galleries over to the new service in the coming weeks, so be on the lookout for an email with your new gallery information and a $5 gift certificate that you may use to purchase some professionally-printed photography products.

  • Online proofing and ordering (password-protected for your privacy)
  • Credit for professional prints, gifts and/or albums

  • DVD of high-resolution (print-quality) images, with a print and display release

Basic Portraits - $200
Includes $50 credit for professional prints, gifts and/or albums
Basic portraits take place at my studio in Redmond and are ideal for smaller families with extroverted, agreeable children. What I mean by "agreeable" is that they cope well with new environments, unfamiliar situations and pets. Children who are easily alarmed or unsettled by unfamiliar situations generally don't do well in the artificial environment of a photo studio. Babies, infants, and children over age 10 tend to do just fine in a studio environment, but children ages 2-9 can be hit-or-miss. Please be realistic in determining whether your child's personality is suitable for a studio environment.

Deluxe Portraits - $300
Includes $75 credit for professional prints, gifts and/or albums
Deluxe portraits are recommended for most families. These sessions take place at your home or at an outdoor* location in the Greater Seattle Area. Deluxe Portraits are a great way to capture your children doing what is natural and comfortable for them while they play. It also gives them an opportunity to get used to me and my camera so that we can get some nice posed photographs of the whole family together at some point during the session.

A deposit of $100 is required to confirm your photo session date. Get in touch at molly@mollybennett.com or (206) 898-9687 to schedule your session now. Check the sidebar for my current availability!

The Sun Signs Project

GeminiTwins.jpg
Gemini Twins, June 2007

I finally started working on one of my long-term photography projects this summer: The Sun Signs Project. It's a project that I've been thinking about for years, and I fully expect to continue working on it when I'm 40, 50, 60...heck, as long as I can pick up a camera and find people willing to sit for me, I'll think I'll be working on this project!

The premise for this project is simple enough: How does astrology influence who we are? My goal with this project is to let each person's personality shine through as much as possible while I'm photographing them, and then select the image that captured their "essence" the best. I do not pose people for this project-honestly, I rarely pose people at ALL when I photograph them, but I definitely do not do it with these images-and I stick to extremely simple lighting arrangements and framing. I am not trying to be artistic with the images, or to do anything staged or contrived. What I want is to capture images of people being exactly who they are at that moment in time.

I am taking these photos on people's birthdays because that's when the astrological energy is the most focused on us, according to the astrologers I've spoken with. On our birthdays, the universe's energy is extra validating of those qualities that make us unique, astrologically-speaking. My ultimate purpose with these images is to display them in various combinations (a show of all Capricorns, or all air signs, or all women representing each sun sign), and let people draw their own conclusions about how much (or how little) astrology impacts each of us.

If this sounds like the kind of project you'd be interested in participating in, here's the scoop:

  • Cost: $30 at my studio in Redmond, WA ($50 if you prefer me to bring my lights and equipment to you and you are located in the greater Seattle area. Outside of the greater Seattle area, please email me.)
  • You sign a model release form allowing me to print, display, modify, and use these images for this project and in my general portfolio.
  • You must be available on your birthday, either during the day or in the evening.

You receive:

  • Online proofing gallery from which you, your friends and family may order prints
  • DVD of high-resolution (print-quality) images, with a print and display release
  • Professional (though minimal) re-touching and image processing

If you're interested in participating, please email me at molly@mollybennett.com with your birth-date and we'll set something up! People from all walks of life are welcome: age, race, ethnicity, size, shape, gender, sexual orientation, shoe size and ice cream preference are unimportant!
